Taco Tuesday just got a lot more exciting!
I don’t know about you all, but tacos and taco salads (While on Whole30) are a pretty regular occurrence around here! They’re just so easy and fun. I mean, how many different variations of tacos are there? SO MANY, right?!
One thing I started to get tired of though was putting dry seasoning over the meat either from a packet, or a mixture I made myself. Sure you can add some water to help mix those spices in, but the result to me was always dry taco meat that didn’t have a ton of flavor like I wanted. I started finding taco simmer sauces out there with somewhat decent ingredients, but nothing that was fully Whole30 compliant.
So recently, I got out my blender, the spices I needed to make a creation that had tons of flavor and the result actually came out pretty much perfect on the first try. For those of you who have ever tried to develop a recipe, you know thats not always the case. In fact, many times it takes several tries, and sometimes comes with a feeling of disappointment that it’s not coming out perfect. So when I get something so awesome on the first try, it revives my little spirit and I get so excited to share it, especially with all of you!
Whole30 Taco simmer sauce
Tired of sprinkling dry seasoning on your taco meat to end up with little flavor and dry meat? Me. Too! My simmer sauce adds a ton of flavor to your taco meat and keeps it nice and juicy!
- 4 oz Tomato sauce
- 3 oz water
- 1 oz Avocado Oil
- Juice 1/2 Lime
- 1/4 cup Fresh cilantro
- 1/2 tbsp date paste
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 3/4 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp dried minced onion
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp ground coriander
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until well mixed.
After browning 1 lb of ground beef, or meat of choice, pour simmer sauce over cooked meat and turn heat down. Allow to simmer for about 20 minutes until meat has absorbed liquid.
When I say to use your blender for this, a couple of options will work just fine. I use my vitamix, but you could also use a hand immersion blender just as easily. Here’s what I have for each of those, and LOVE both of them! Click the image to shop them on Amazon!
